Trauma/PTSD

It is heart breaking when a child experiences trauma or post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).  The innocence of childhood is stripped away, and children have to deal with a part of the world that they're not ready for yet.  Children are resilient, and don't always develop PTSD from traumatizing experiences, and with a loved ones help PTSD to be prevented, and/or they can recover.

The common factor in trauma treatments are helping children to process the trauma, so that it doesn't get "stuck" and continue to interfere in the form of unwanted thoughts, nightmares, and triggers.  Processing the trauma can be done through play, art, Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), and family therapy.  Many parents don't know how to help their child with trauma, and understanding trauma, and how to treat it, and how to best support your child during this difficult time is extremely important.  The attachment relationship between a parent and child can be a preventative factor in whether a trauma experience may turn into post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

There is help, and the sooner you seek help, the less your child has to suffer from PTSD.  Call us now to discuss how we could help and schedule an appointment.
